Passage 3

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

do not think of. From this day, since you are one who has taken a body, carry out your duties, do your karmas with hands, feet and the other limbs, worship and then eat: when the seven ṛṣis taught him so, through their darśan and through their talk his thoughts were changed. So satsaṅga is the main goal for man. Through satsaṅga alone can we foster one-pointedness. Through satsaṅga we can root out the bad feelings within us. The rooting out of bad thoughts is itself the root cause of Mokṣa.

In good thought, freedom from thought; in freedom from thought, freedom from delusion; in freedom from delusion, the unmoving principle; in the unmoving principle, jīvanmukti.

Every man must strive with deliberate effort to achieve good thoughts. From that day, through the teachings of the seven ṛṣis and through their encouragement, his zeal grew, and he sat contemplating the Name of Rāma. Through the Name of Rāma alone his life became blessed. When the Lord of the world was God, Vālmīki became the giver of the ślokas. Without the lord of the ślokas, the spreading and the teachings of the Lord of the world would not have reached the world. Vālmīki set out an ideal for the world.

Every man must become an ideal. The greatness in humanness is something very great. A power that is not in man is not to be seen in anything else. All powers lie contained in man. But you must refine them in the right way. When you root out faults and foster virtues, when you put the virtues you have fostered into practice, it becomes a true home for Ānanda. Every man must become free of faults. He must become one who fosters virtues. Only then do the ending of sorrow and the gaining of Ānanda come to man. One who truly believes, worships, has faith and takes part in the work will never come to ruin.

There are those who came to ruin by not believing, but none in this world who came to ruin by believing.

Man today has lost the eyes called faith. He believes everything that is not to be believed.
