In plain words
The valour of excessive talk has grown great; the valour of action has dwindled to nothing and melted away; life has become a delusion of pomp and show; the life of today's student has come to this.
Students,
The state of today's students is one of utter confusion. The one who talks cannot study. The one who studies cannot talk. This is the very thing I warn of now and then. Less talk more study. Human values are sinking out of sight today. Indeed, man is not to be seen today as man. Thinking is one thing, saying another, doing yet another. That is why man today wastes his time in endless talk. He has been losing this divine power, this divine purity, granted to man. The more he talks, the more the power of memory in him decays. Not only that, concentration too wastes away. So we lose even the divine power that dwells in the body of man. Talking too much makes the hunger grow. The more the hunger grows, the more he eats. Eating too much, he grows heavy and dull. Being so dull, he does not cultivate care for any work. He will not agree to take part in any service at all. That is why a spirit of service is so essential in the young today. If you are to do service, you must eat in moderation. Too much food, harm to the mind. Measured food, great ease.
Vallabhbhai Patel used to say: Talk little. Work much. Not only that, he himself kept on doing his own work well, with discipline. Everyone called him a practical man. Vidura too said there is no power greater than silence. That is why the ancient ṛṣis took up silence and came to attain divinity through the very seal of silence.
