In plain words
That is just where you must bear it. But, angry with the person beside them, when the bhajan is all over they say Śānti, “Śānti Śānti Śānti”, and bring their anger into the Śānti. What Śānti can such devotees attain? Thinking, “This is a test for me,” you must say “Śānti, Śānti, Śānti” calmly. Even this Śānti sets out in fury. Such are songs without Bhakti. If we truly had Bhakti, we would keep the spirit of endurance in any situation. We must not let ourselves grow angry even over small matters. But we do bring on anger. We nurse hatred. We quarrel. We cause turmoil. We spread unrest in society. No, no. Remain in Śānti yourself. Raise your family in Śānti. Give Śānti to society. That is your duty. Otherwise, to have no Śānti yourself and to give unrest to society is a great sin. So we must look on the quality of forbearance as of the utmost need, as our chief life-breath, and develop it.
