Passage 8

In plain words

Those tender-hearted ones have held to that promise so firmly. Once a promise has been given, there is no such thing as sorrow in life. That is Śaraṇāgati. The mother passed away. The father too does not come very often. He has left them, knowing that Swami is looking after them. Morning and evening I see them and ask how they are. Such complete faith in such tender-hearted children! Today that boy spoke beautifully on faith. That faith fills him. They have never felt the pain of having no mother. One day the warden brought that boy to Me, saying he had remembered his mother. "Swami! He is not eating; he is crying." He was a child of five then. 1st standard. I called him here, made him happy, took him into the interview room, put a ring on him, did this and that, made him forget and filled him with delight. Since then, whenever you look at him, he is laughing. Children's hearts are as pure as that. Elders are not able to recognise such Prema. Prema is as pure as this. It gives such courage and daring. Could these children have stayed in any other place! Because they were near Swami, they could stay. Swami looks after them with the Prema of a thousand mothers. Even great renunciants cannot recognise this truth. They do dhyāna. They do japa; what is the use? They sink down through attachment and possessiveness.

In the world, take one word and live free of care. What is that word? Prema alone. If we foster Prema alone, all strengths come to us. Strength of arm, strength of intellect, strength of body: all strengths arise in us. Whatever power we need in the world, all powers are right there in it. If we have gold in our hands, we can have jewels of every kind made. Those who have become worthy of God's Grace can achieve anything. For those who have attained God: whatever they want, and more than that. So we must recognise the principle of God well, and act on it. In the world there is no need to do any sādhanas. It is enough if we rid ourselves of the bad qualities in us. We must strengthen the faith that the God I long for dwells in all. Students must foster such a feeling of the one Ātma. When we foster this principle of the one Ātma, we can achieve anything.
