In plain words
So we must follow an ideal life. Man does not know what an ideal life is. The moment he takes his degrees, he gives room to Ahaṅkāra: "I am a great scholar, I am a great man." So long as these three are there, Ahaṅkāra, pomp and envy, this man is of no use whatever in this world. So society too does not respect such people. In the home they honour the fool. In the village the village headman is honoured. The country honours the king. But the man of refinement is honoured by the world itself. So first of all we must strive to guard well our refinement, our Bhāratīya culture. The people of each country must guard that country's culture. This is the distinction of true education.
Above all, today we must take up our ties and relationships in the right way. There is no need to hate anyone. But you must choose those you have to choose in the right way. If you want to be a friend, it is better to have no friend at all than to make a fool your friend. So you must choose the right friend. What kind of person? Choose one who has trikaraṇa-śuddhi. Those who have one thing in the mind, another in the word and yet another in the deed: do not let them come near you at all. We do not try to recognise the workings of other people's minds: a small example. Even dogs make out a man's feelings. But man cannot make out his own feelings. A dog is lying in a hollow twenty feet away. Walk past it. It will not object in the least. Make up your mind to hit it and go with a small stone in your hand: the moment it sees you, it runs away. It recognises your saṅkalpa. Dogs recognise man's saṅkalpas, but men themselves do not. We must not become DOG. We must become GOD. Do not go in by the D entrance. Go in by the G entrance. That is the first quality. That too is the root of that sādhana. What is sādhana? Doing japa, doing tapas: that is not sādhana. First of all we must recognise the truth.
