In plain words
In bronze the ring is loud; in gold no ring is heard. In small men show abounds; why outer gloss for devotees?
Students!
Today's students long for riches, friendship and strength, but they do not long for character. Equality, affection, wholeness and brotherhood: these four above all you must achieve. No show of any kind is fitting in students. Good qualities, good practices, good wealth and good conduct: these are the marks a student must have. But unfortunately, in this modern age today, actions contrary to all of these keep taking place. Today's student passes his time in bad company, bad thinking, bad conduct and bad thoughts. Show does not become us. Bronze and gold, when you look at them, both appear just the same. But the sound of bronze is loud. Gold is without sound. Today's students must cut down their showy talk. You need not earn great worth. Speaking your words with dignity and respect, you must keep up the name "student", a name that carries its meaning. Our words must be sweet and humble, and must show obedience.
How are we using today the chief gifts God has bestowed? Mind, status, course and wealth. These four are God's grace itself. Today we use the mind as a wicked mind. The mind is simply turning one into a madman. The mind itself turns one into a man mad with pride. You must put the mind to good use. Only one who has a mind seeks a religion. In the world all religions act with the mind as their basis.
