In plain words
Today, through the influence of the Kali age, wherever two come together, there is no patience, no friendship, no sympathy. There is no kindness or consideration at all. Everywhere self-interest and one's own advantage.
The students of today must enter society and resolve firmly to protect the country and for the welfare of society. This itself is service for your having studied. Our Śānti lies in service to the country itself. For our being born, our growing up, all takes place within society itself. If today we have become so great, it is through the encouragement of society alone. Through the well-being of society alone. Through the help of society alone. To offer due gratitude to this society, we must do service to society. We must keep our words good. It is through this alone that trust forms in us. 'What sin is there worse than to speak and then lie?' said Emperor Bali. Defying even the guru, we must enter into Satya. Śukrācārya told him not to. O Bali! He is no ordinary person. He asks for three steps. He is Nārāyaṇa Himself. If you give Him the gift, you will become a pauper! 'Swami, when God Himself comes and holds out His hand, who am I, the one who gives? I will surely give. Whatever becomes of me, it does not matter,' he said. His hand will come below. My hand is above. The hand of the giver is above. The hand of the taker is below. This itself is good fortune, he said. He is no ordinary person; Nārāyaṇa Himself is asking; is there any greater good fortune than that? For this good fortune I will defy anything. So, not to go back on the word given for the sake of Satya: this is the right honour for us. Youth is like a passing cloud. It has no before and no after. Man's youth passes like water under the foot. We must not be puffed up over what has come in the middle. Keeping the future as our goal and the well-being of society in view, we must develop a mind that does not waver and a vision that does not stray.
Not only this, you must win a good name for mother and father. They are toiling in many ways for your progress. They are undergoing many hardships. Every mother and father hopes that you will study well and rise to great progress. So we must give our parents the Śānti they deserve. This is the great saṃskāra that lies in education.
