In plain words
God is of one kind throughout. Then where did these forms of Ānanda come from? Just as redness, the power to burn and heat, these three, are natural to fire, so Sat, Cit and Ānanda, these three, are the natural marks of God, who is the embodiment of Sat-Cit-Ānanda. Sat is the principle that is for ever. Unmoving, spotless, still, selfless: this is Sat. Cit: this is consciousness. This they called conscience. Where did this Ānanda come from? The oneness of these two, Sat and Cit, is Ānanda. The fruit of these three is Ānanda. From his birth till his death every man longs for Ānanda. Students hope to pass in their class and to experience Ānanda. But the moment they pass, they experience Ānanda. This Ānanda does not become lasting through that alone. Again he hopes to go to a higher level. He reached the higher level in that too. But the Ānanda is not lasting. Next he hopes for a job; even when he gets the job, there is no Ānanda. In this way he goes on desiring many desires all his life. There is no end at all to these desires. There is no end to Ānanda.
Joys connected with the world last only a moment. 'Mā kuru dhana jana yavvana garvaṃ, arati nimeṣā kālā sarvaṃ': all this is what burns away in a moment. It is what falls off in a moment. It is what changes in a moment. Taking such a thing to be real, we dedicate our life to it. All these are only sights in a dream. 'The mansions and terraced houses seen in a dream are not there when you open your eyes, are they?' What is seen in the waking state is not seen at all in the dream. This is a daydream. That is a night's dream. Both are only dreams. The Ahaṃ that is in both is I, myself. That is omnipresent. Such an eternally true principle is in us alone, not in the outer world. The joy that comes from objects is not lasting. The joy that comes from the things of the senses is not lasting. The joy that comes from clothes is not lasting. All these are like passing clouds. But taking such passing clouds to be real and lasting, man goes through many hardships for the sake of getting them.
We must enter the spiritual path for the sake of recognising this Satya. And how many thousands are entering this spiritual path! They are doing so many sādhanas. But how many have experienced this Ānanda?
