In plain words

He lay down to sleep. He woke at three o'clock. He looked. It seemed that a tall figure, His arms reaching to His knees, had come. The doors were open. He came. He patted Annāsāheb on the back. "Annāsāheb, tomorrow I am coming to your house for a meal," He said. He wondered whether it was a dream or real. "It is not a dream. Bābā Himself came to me. Tomorrow He comes to my house for a meal, tomorrow He comes to my house for a meal!" There was nothing but joy. His wife heard these cries and these shouts. "What is it? Is it a dream you are having, or a fright? Why are you in this state?" she said. "This is only like a dream. What is this about Bābā coming here at three o'clock? Where is Shirdi and where is Bandra? This is all your delusion," she said. He told her, "Silly woman! For God there is no such thing as far and near. For God who is everywhere, where is the coming and going? God's is the very form that has no coming and going. Wherever anyone has the fortune, there He appears to them. To whoever does not have the fortune, He does not appear. It goes according to each one's world. Bābā comes to our house tomorrow. Without fail, the moment you get up at dawn you must do the cooking," he said. "If Bābā really comes to our house, what better fortune than that?" said his wife. She got up at dawn. She had the whole house washed and cleaned all the vessels. She cooked all the dishes specially. She made pāyasam. She made another sweet. She made vaḍas. They are waiting for Bābā to come at mealtime. They decorated the whole house with fine festoons of flowers and mango leaves. It was now twelve o'clock. Bābā did not come. No sign of His coming was seen. They are looking in every direction. Why has Bābā not come, they wonder. "Bābā never goes back on a word He has spoken. He is the embodiment of Satya. He Himself is Satyanārāyaṇa. There is no Satya other than Him. He will come without fail. Bābā never goes back on a word He has given." So he is persuading his wife. Well, it was now two o'clock. No trace of His coming was seen. "Well, what more is there to do?" they thought. Two sāhebs came from the front room. "Annāsāheb, sir, you seem to be in a hurry. Relatives have come. They are getting ready for the meal. Now is no time to talk. You see to your own work. Here, take this packet," they said. He took the packet. They went away. When he opened it: a picture of Bābā. "Bābā, have You come to my house in this form?" Saying this, he hugged the photo itself tight. Bhakti is as mad as that. Saccidānanda Sai Bābā, who makes people mad and takes madness away: why does Bābā make people mad in this way? He takes away the madness for the world. He makes them mad for Himself. He took that photo and set it before the leaf.
