In plain words

Then Suguṇa herself had to go to light the lamp. "I have been granted the chance to see the place where the Paramātma moved about!" With great joy she entered Yaśodā's house. Divinity depends on faith, not on sādhanas, not on recitations, not on scholarship. There are great, great scholars. There are great, great yogis. There are great renunciants. A fortune that came to no one came to that Suguṇa. From the moment she set foot in Vrepalle it was ceaseless thought of Kṛṣṇa: "Alas, so this is how my lot has turned out! Kṛṣṇa has left Vrepalle and gone away!" The poor girl set her lamp before that lamp. That lamp is burning. Suguṇa forgot her body. Her hand burned. Saying, "There is a smell of cloth," Yaśodā comes running. Who are you, my girl? Your body is burning and you pay it no heed at all? Many more gopīs had come to light their lamps. They were all waiting. In the flame Kṛṣṇa is appearing to Suguṇa. Seeing Kṛṣṇa in that flame, Suguṇa forgot her body. When they all gathered and asked what she had seen, and she told them, the gopīs danced:

"He appeared to Suguṇa, they say; He appeared to our Suguṇa, they say; Gopāla of Nanda's house, they say, appeared in the lamp, they say; that very one touched her finger, they say.

They are in such Ānanda. What pūjās had she done? They knew nothing of what pūjās and japas are. In those days there were none of today's studies. That itself was their good fortune. Had these studies been there in those days, this fortune would not have been gained. Their whole aim was on God alone. The whole aim of today's modern people is on the book alone. After study, the aim is on examinations. With the aim on examinations, drinking cups of coffee and studying. Knocking out one's own Viveka. The memory growing dull. In this way they are rooting out man's powers. For Suguṇa in those days it was ceaseless thought of Kṛṣṇa. That faith itself was the cause of such fortune for her. Fortune depends on faith, not on anything else. If you want to climb onto the roof, you must set a ladder on the ground. You must lean it against the top. The one below is faith; at the top, Prema. Without a support you cannot climb up. Prema and faith alone are the root causes. This is the great sādhana.

In the previous body, in the village of Bandra, there was Hemādri Pant, a supreme devotee of Sai Bābā. They call him Annāsāheb. This Annāsāheb was always thinking of Bābā, saying "Bābā, Bābā."
