In plain words
When the new children are tormented in all kinds of ways, they give up their studies and go. Is this what senior boys should do? You must cherish Junior boys greatly. You must look after them like your own brothers. You must set right their difficulties. You must root out their unrest. You must increase happiness and Śānti. That is what I am doing here. I tell you to do it. Though education is free, I give such children their food, books and scholarship. Games, examination, lib: for none of it is a naya paisa spent. When education is given to children in this way, how lofty and exemplary the students they should become! They must become ideal boys. If anyone is begging: My dear, you must not beg; what fate has befallen you? Saying, ‘Come, I will show you a way,’ you must show him a job, or else give help.
Once Jesus gave two fish to a hungry man. How could fish be given like that every day? Thinking this was not good, He gave him a net instead. Take this net and make your living. So too our children must do it as hospitality. They must give the help a livelihood needs. Because all are our brothers. All the children of our Institute are brothers and sisters. You must foster that Prema. You must broaden your affection. You must make the heart broad. That is what our students must learn. We must not give the least room to Ahaṅkāra or to show. We must give room to boundless Prema. We must give room to the ideal. Only then can such children come up in life. In the past, it was people like these who came up. Long ago, in the British land, a man used to polish boots. He would polish the boots, take the money and say, ‘God bless you.’ Another man used to write addresses on envelopes. When he wrote out an address, they gave him a penny. For that he would say thanks and ‘God bless you.’ He was a man of good heart. Because he lived with that Bhakti and faith, he became the Prime Minister of Britain. What a lofty height! A high place comes only to the humility and obedience in us. Not to education either. You know Churchill. He did not study any subjects. He joined the military. He rose very high. So for all who have won great name and fame, humility and obedience alone are the root cause.
