In plain words

Closing his eyes, the swāmi put on a little play-acting and said, ‘Whoever drinks this water will die, and this boy will live.’ He took it over to the wife. She was the wife, after all, the dear one. He gave it to her. ‘Will you drink the water, Amma?’ he asked. ‘I am my parents' only daughter. If I go, my parents will take their own lives. So I will not drink,’ she said. ‘Your husband will live, Amma! You die; what is wrong with that?’ he said. ‘The one who was to die has died anyway. Let him go! I will not drink,’ she said. He showed it to the mother: ‘Amma! Will you drink?’ ‘Ayyo, my dear! My daughter has come home for her confinement. There is no one to see her through the delivery. There are two more girls besides. They have to be married. All this is my responsibility. How can I die?’ she said. Well, he asked the father. He thought it over. ‘I am the head of the house. Only the two women will be left. My daughter-in-law will be widowed. My wife will be widowed. There will be no man in the house to look to. How can I die?’ he said. So none of the three agreed. The three went inside and made a master plan. ‘Swāmi! You are so full of compassion. You have no responsibilities at all. Drink this water yourself and bring my son back to life. We will build you a fine marble samādhi,’ they said. Then the boy got up. ‘Did you see? Look, what did your wife say? What did your mother say? What did your father say? In the end they told me to die!’ he made him see. The whole world is mithyā. Janma duḥkhaṃ, jarā duḥkhaṃ, jāyā duḥkhaṃ punaḥ punaḥ, antyakāle mahā duḥkhaṃ, tasmāt jāgrata jāgrata. No one belongs to anyone. They love the body only so long as there is attachment to the body. This too is for selfishness! God alone is selfless, without any selfishness at all! Love such a God, and look after your other relationships. There is nothing wrong in that. Whatever work you do, regard it as God's work. Whomever you see, believe that one to be God. What is in all is ‘Mamātma sarvabhūtāntarātma’. We must not speak ill of anyone. We must not stir up hatred with anyone. We must not put too much trust in anyone. Place on God the trust you place in everyone.
