In plain words
Vairāgya towards all these is needed. If the feeling is firm that you truly are educated people, human beings, people with Bhakti for God, then with this one Vairāgya your mind will change. What is Vairāgya? They do not eat again food they have vomited. Just as we cast away this vomited food, so we must cast away the vāsanās for sense objects. When these vāsanās for sense objects come, if we think, ‘Chī! This is food I have vomited; I must not look at it,’ we will not like even to look at it. Then how will you eat it? Vairāgya means: cast away mean feelings, as you would put vomited food out of mind. If some vāsanā for sense objects comes: children must listen to this very carefully. Children of this age try to look at all sorts of very bad things. They try to think of bad things. If such thoughts come: ‘Chī! This is food I have vomited. A foul smell. Very bad. Not wanting it even to stay in my stomach, I threw it up. How can I long for such a thing?’ This is how you must reflect. This is true Vairāgya. Only then will you enter the good, sacred path. Only when such a sacred path comes will God gladly draw you close to Him. There is no nearness beyond that. There is no treasure beyond that. That is the true aim of life. That is man's purpose of Life! Since you have been given a human birth, you must achieve it. You must earn a good name.
