In plain words
The families of those days were joint families. If there were four brothers, even though they had children, all of them went on living in one house as one family. As time moved on, as the ages changed, as the worlds grew, as heads changed and minds went astray and fostered division, divisions have kept growing even in the villages of today. If there are four in a house, there are four kinds of differences of opinion. What is the reason for this? Selfishness itself is its root cause. Greed itself is the root cause.
Today the Craving for Power and the Craving for Wealth Have Grown Beyond Measure
Today in the world the craving for power and the craving for wealth have gone beyond all limits. Wealth comes; it goes. How long can it stay with you? What can you do with this wealth? You do need wealth, very much! But wealth beyond limits ruins the mind. And if we look at the craving for power: one must sit on the seat of power until life departs! Politics itself, joined with these bad qualities, evil minds and evil practices, has ruined the villages.
Politics Will Turn Villages into Graves
Village people, embodiments of Prema! Do not give politics the least room within your village. Do not hate anyone. ‘Adveṣṭā sarvabhūtānām.’ Love everyone. If we bring politics in, our village will not remain a community. They will turn into graves. All of us people together are bringing things to such a state. When three in one house live as one, what ease! There is no room even for unrest. Troubles do not trouble us in the least. But when differences of opinion grow among those three, it seems that hell is better than this.
