Passage 10

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

We tell him, ‘Son! This creation means being born.’ Asking, ‘Is that all?’, he goes away. It has sunk to such a naive state. What is the reason? Attachment to the body is the root cause of it. Whoever turns this attachment to the body into attachment to God, he alone is blessed. Only then does fitting value come. As long as that is lacking, they will not give it even the five rupees' value that came to this Rabbit. A small example. Within small stories themselves we can grasp a great inner meaning. Once, Nārada used to go about with ‘Govinda Dāmodara Nārāyaṇa Govinda Dāmodara’, thinking of Nārāyaṇa at all three times. He went to Vaikuṇṭha and said, ‘Nārāyaṇa! Salutations.’ ‘Good, Nārada! Sit down,’ said Nārāyaṇa. Then: ‘Well, Nārada! Is there anything bad in My creation? You roam the three worlds, do you not; you see things; is there anything bad? Tell Me,’ He said. Nārada said, ‘Forgive me, there is plenty of badness.’ ‘Chi! What are you saying? Though you are Brahmā's mind-born son, you speak with so little Jñāna of discernment. There is no badness at all in My creation,’ said Nārāyaṇa. Then Nārada: ‘Lord! Every man goes out as soon as day breaks. He passes excrement and urine. How bad is that?’ he said. Viṣṇu looked on in great astonishment. ‘What, you think that is bad? A great mistake. You are under a delusion. It is not bad; it is good,’ so Nārāyaṇa defended Himself. ‘If Nārāyaṇa Himself says so, what am I to say? How can I say it is good, Lord!’ said Nārada. ‘Do not ask Me; go and ask it,’ Nārāyaṇa said again. What could he do? Bowing to Nārāyaṇa's command, he went. That excrement was still only ten feet away. Nārada was going up to it, to ask. The excrement spoke: ‘Nārada, away, away,’ it said. ‘What, I am the one who must keep away? You are telling me to keep away! Why are you telling me to keep away?’ said Nārada. ‘Nārada! Last night I was sacred curd. I am sacred milk. I was sacred rice.
