In plain words
How they sparkle before Me!
They do sinful deeds, and when the fruit brings calamity they turn bitter, and saying, ‘You do not protect,’ they lay the blame on Me, O friend!
Is there any sense in this? Can such people be called devotees? Not in the least. Bhakti is an offering to God. All is God's; there is no second at all. Only if there were a second would it need a place. What does it mean to remember God constantly? You must repeat constantly, never forgetting it, the real truth ‘I am Brahman.’ People go about having given names to the body. It is a great fraud. They say, ‘I am So-and-so Rāmayya.’ Your body's name is Rāmayya; you are not Rāmayya! But you live calling yourself by the body's name. The body is impermanent. It is like a bubble on water. Who knows when this bubble will burst! What should you go about declaring? ‘Ahaṃbrahmasmi.’ Go about anywhere you please. Do not do wrong. You must believe in God. Only then can you have God appear before you.
Whomever you serve, it is as good as serving the Ātma!
Embodiments of Prema! When I speak to you day after day of this detachment from the body, it may pain you to some extent. But this is the truth. I have not come for praise. To speak Satya is My duty. To practise Satya is your duty. Here there are four kinds of sādhana for the servant. Cleanliness of the place, cleanliness of feeling, cleanliness of the body, cleanliness of the Ātma. What is this cleanliness? Believing in the truth that ‘God is everywhere’, you must go on keeping every place spotless. And of these, the place where He is seen in bodily form must be kept cleaner still. Swami is here. Where Swami is, it must be clean. It must be silent. It must be pure. It must be free of delusion, free of Ahaṅkāra: this is cleanliness of the place. Cleanliness of feeling. What must your feeling be like? God is all-pervading. He is the embodiment of compassion. He is the One who makes Prema shine. He is beyond reach and beyond sight. He is beyond all measure.
