Passage 10

In plain words

What is eternal Satya trusts only eternal Satya. You are eternal Satya. The body is merely a bubble on the water. Who knows in what moment it will go! But you are eternal! You are Satya! You are the embodiment of the Ātma. What is ‘Ātma’? Our principle of Prema itself is the Ātma. Prema shown without wanting anything in return: that itself is the Ātma principle. That itself is selfless. Where there is selfish, that is fish. Fish is better than selfish. That fish is better. Moving about in the water, it eats the dirt in the water. It makes the water clean. This selfish man joins society and makes society dirty. So you must keep selfishness within limits. It is not possible to be without selfishness. But a bond with everyone is not what matters for us. All this is a passing bond. Carefully, without growing too close a bond with anyone, without hatred towards anyone, with a measured affection, you must offer the Supreme Principle to the Supreme Principle alone. In the world today, all good and bad come about through relationships and bonds. Whatever association we keep, those qualities enter into us. That is why they said, Tell me your company, I shall tell you what you are. Whatever kind of people you join, that kind of disposition comes into you and settles there. That is why I tell you so very firmly. You must keep things within their limit, only so far as is due. Prema, anger, envy and desire too must have their limit. When desires go beyond the limit, they become greed. Greed becomes the root cause of sorrow. Desire there must be, in every man, as much as is fitting. A flame to suit the cooking. Contents to suit the vessel. If you pour five seers of rice into a pot that cooks a seer of rice, will it cook? Our Prema is to be shared with each only so far as is due to each! We must recognise that value. There is one Prema alone. Chatterjee said, ‘Swami! I am going home to my town,’ he said. ‘Good,’ I said. Swami! ‘I came yesterday,’ he said. ‘Good,’ I said. Not only this. There are some more things that he does not know. If anyone says, ‘Swami! I am dying’, I say, ‘Good.’ He says, ‘Swami! I cannot bear this pain.’ I say, ‘Good.’ What is not good, in this world? All of it is good!
