In plain words
‘Madman! You cannot speak of “you” and “I”. Whenever anyone's time comes, he cannot escape going then,’ said Kṛṣṇa.
God Sees Both the Past and the Present
The body will not fail to go, however you nourish and guard it; loss and gain will not fail to come, though you hide in the great forest.
All these are bonds from birth to birth. A small example. There is a stone. A young man of 25 took a hammer and struck it 20 blows. But the stone did not break. Then an old man struck it two blows, and it broke into two pieces at once. Then the old man says proudly, ‘The young man struck it 20 blows and it did not break; I broke it with two blows, look!’ Then someone said: ‘Old man! Do not let your pride grow over just this much: it was not at two blows that it broke. Before you, a young man struck it 20 blows. With those and these together, the stone broke at 22 blows.’ We look only at what happens there and then. God sees the past as well. This is the difference between God and us. Divinity is everywhere. But you see only the present. God sees both the past and the present. In the past it was a tree. In the future it will be a tree. In the present it is a seed. You see only the seed, but both those trees come from the seed itself! That is why Kṛṣṇa said, ‘Bījaṃmāṃ sarvabhūtānāṃ’. In this way he went on proclaiming Advaita to the world, step by step. This Advaita must have a single root and basis. For man to understand this root principle, we must gather together a great many comparisons. In the days ahead, you too, be ready to recognise that root principle!
