Passage 12

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

He is not one who moves or stirs. ‘Nirguṇaṃ, nirañjanaṃ, sanātanaṃ, niketanaṃ, nitya, śuddha, buddha, mukta, nirmala svarūpiṇaṃ.’ All this we say. But we do not do it. We must do what we say. That is it: the proper study of mankind is man. Thoughts, words, actions: the three must become one. That alone is what we must learn today. Whatever sacred feeling you hold in the Manas, that you must speak with the mouth. What you speak with the mouth, you must do with the hand. In Vedānta they called this trikaraṇa-śuddhi. Without trikaraṇa-śuddhi, the attainment of Jñāna does not come within our reach. These pūjās, vratas and nōmus, all of them are only for purity of citta; and purity of citta is only for Jñāna!

Good resolves bring the strength they need

Embodiments of Prema! By the merit of many births you have entered this sacred path. How many people there are in Bhārata, are there not? Has everyone had the chance? No. Who knows how many who wanted to come have cancelled. We must try to hold on to what we have got. Getting it at all is very rare. We must make what we have got worthwhile. It must go on for a long time. As Gadia said, in '98 it will take place on a grand scale. For that, Subrahmaṇya Shetty's health must stay good. He has the longing, but the body cannot bear it. When that good resolve is there, the resolve itself brings every strength. Śāstri too must take a firm vow in this matter. He must spread the sacredness of the feet still more widely, teach their true inner meaning, and go on driving away the darkness called Ajñāna from the people.
