In plain words
she said. What is that tulasī leaf like? It is joined with sacred qualities. Prema itself is the tulasī leaf. Merely saying the Name does not bring the form to the right weight. Merely remembering the physical body with a physical name does not balance it. The body of Prakṛti balances only against the Name that is beyond Prakṛti. These are the marks of pravṛtti, the marks of the body. The Name is the mark of nivṛtti. Nārada is no ordinary one. ‘Mother! Rukmiṇī! You are going along the path of pravṛtti. Kṛṣṇa is caught only by nivṛtti. If Kṛṣṇa could be balanced on this path of pravṛtti, Satyabhāmā put on as many ornaments as were needed, and yet He did not balance! Kṛṣṇa is not one to be balanced by this,’ he taught. Then she put in the tulasī leaf from her hand, saying ‘Kṛṣṇārpaṇam’. Kṛṣṇa's Name weighed equal to Kṛṣṇa's form. The tulasī leaf became heavier. So Kṛṣṇa yielded to Rukmiṇī. God does not balance against money, gold, possessions, vehicles and the like. God does not balance against powers. God does not balance against learning and intellect. God balances against Prema alone. If you wish to weigh God: Prema, Prema, Prema. Look anywhere today: of Prema itself there is none. We are unable to experience rightly even the Prema of mother and child. The Prema of God is there from the nails to the crown of the head. Break off the nose of a doll made of sugar and put it in your mouth: it is sweet all the same. Break off the ear and put it in your mouth: it is sweet all the same. Break off a finger and put it in your mouth: it is sweet all the same. What is the reason? It is all sugar through and through! So God is wholly Prema! Only when you foster such sweet Prema do you gain the right to ask the Embodiment of Prema. Without Prema in you, you have no right at all to ask God. Fill your heart with bad qualities, bad thoughts and evil broodings, and then pray to the Embodiment of Prema, who is pure, unmoving and selfless: it is of no use at all.
