In plain words

The trees of every kind, the cattle, the birds

were born and grew in perfect tyāga

Cattle, birds and trees alike are born and grow in perfect tyāga. Man has studied so much and has so much intelligence, yet he has no such spirit of tyāga, no broad heart: that is very sad. Born in a wide world, men have narrow minds. One born in a wide world should have only broad thoughts. But today there is no broadness at all in men. However much study you have done, what use is it? However much intelligence you have, what use is it? This body has come only for the good of others.

Uncleanliness is the root cause of the village people falling ill

We must love our Bhārata. Lofty mountains, great perennial rivers, lands green with crops: such a Bhārata we are unable to cherish. Even to such a Bhārata we are unable to render service. Then what are our studies for? We must go to the backward villages and enter into service. First of all we must build roads to the villages. After that we must bring them pure water. We must lay out the drains properly and conveniently. We must make the village that lives in darkness shine with light. The root cause of the village people falling ill today is nothing but uncleanliness. First of all, the water they drink must stay pure. We must make that place clean. The chief service in the villages is to provide clean surroundings. Sai has come forth for this very purpose, to proclaim it. What is the meaning of the word ‘Sai’? SAI, Sai. S-Service, A-Association, I-Individual. If one who is an Individual wants to bring about the welfare of society, he must do service.

Only when transformation comes in the individual does transformation come in society

What is it that man must develop today? He must make his own personality broad.
