Passage 5

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

They were the ones called Protestants. That is, it means ‘those who oppose’. In course of time these differences and hatreds went on growing from day to day. Because of that, many dangers befell even Jesus. The Jews in Jerusalem would not agree at all to His entering the temple of God. Religious quarrels and riots went on growing from day to day. Into this, the involvement of some other countries too went on creeping in. Sects formed among the Jews, and they set about tormenting Jesus in many ways. As religions (opinions) went on multiplying, minds too went on multiplying. Because each had zeal for his own religion, the demonic began in human beings. In truth, the root cause of religious zeal is nothing but a kind of perverse pride joined with Ahaṅkāra! With this in view, they went on wrangling over whether the declarations Jesus made were true or not. Jesus first of all said, ‘I am the envoy of God, the messenger.’ Not only that; ‘Not I alone, but all are envoys of God’, He said. In truth, every man is a messenger of God! But, forgetting that truth, man thinks of himself as the master and grows proud. So the meaning of messenger has turned into its opposite. Even so, Jesus paid no heed to any of this and went on with His teaching. At first He said, I am the messenger of GOD. Next He said, I am son of GOD. He showed that between the Father and the Son there is a close bond of kinship. Another time, as He went on and on with His sādhana, He proclaimed, I and My Father are one. What came next is the doctrine called holy ghost. These are doctrines found in all religions! Among the Hindus too three doctrines arose: first Dvaita, next Viśiṣṭādvaita, and at the last Advaita. Among the Persians: I am in the light. The light is in me. I am the light. So there are three feelings. Teaching the harmony of all religions, and so as to foster the oneness of all mankind, Jesus at the last offered up His very body.
