In plain words

Every human being is born from none other than his mother's womb; he grows only through his mother's care, and only through his mother's Prema does he enjoy riches and plenty and every comfort. A mother may take some wrong path in other matters, but where her son is concerned she feels neither hatred nor dislike. Whatever the circumstances, she wishes only for her son's welfare. The mother gives the body, the father provides, the guru imparts intelligence. So every person must love and revere his mother and father, and his guru.

In ancient times many great souls set about the duties they had to perform only after they had received their mother's blessing. When, before setting out for war or for tapas, the son fell at his mother's feet and prayed her to bless him,

“When he went to crush the pride of the arms of the asura named Tāraka, the heroic protection given to Gaurī's son; when he went forth to slay the warrior Śambarāsura, the splendid protection given to Bhārgava's son; when he went to end his mother's bondage as a servant, the spotless protection given to Vinatā's son; when he set out for the forest to keep his father's command, the blessed protection his mother gave to Rāghava: such protection of fortune, protection of the intellect, protection of the body, and, divine among all protections, the protection of Rāma, may it go with you as your companion and your shadow, and guard you!”

So the mother would bless him and send him on his way. Through such blessings alone the sons could fight in battle and win victory, and could do severe tapas in the forest and gain God's grace. Śaṅkara said that those who fail to receive their mother's blessings have to take many births. He also said that for those who receive their mother's blessings there is no rebirth. So, first of all, we must become worthy of the mother's grace. But this concerns worldly life alone. On the spiritual path, Vedānta has taught in another way. “My child! Your heart is a single chair. It is not a double sofa; it is not a musical chair. So give room in it to God alone. Still, love your mother and father, and give them the gratitude that is their due. But they are not everlasting.”

‘No mother, no father, no kinsman, no brother; no wealth, no house; therefore beware, beware!’ All these bodies are like drifting clouds.
