In plain words
Without food hunger is not satisfied; without water thirst is not quenched. Without sorrow, happiness does not come. Everything has a cause.
Prema itself is greatness
Prema is the root cause of everything. There is no wealth in this world beyond Prema. If we want to buy some article, we must give money. The money we gave is greater than the article we bought. So with money one can buy anything in the world. It is not the article bought that is the measure here. The money given is what it rests on. It is through Prema that all our happiness and joys come to us. Without Prema we can receive no happiness, no joy. So the wealth that is the root of everything is the wealth of Prema. Every man must earn this wealth of Prema. The man who has earned this wealth of Prema experiences Ānanda without end. In the world, many hardships and losses surround us. They do not stay with us forever. Where there is sorrow, after some time happiness too comes. Every moment, every day, its sweetness grows and never wanes. It is as with sugarcane: the more you savour it, the more its sweetness grows. The more gold is heated, the more its lustre grows. In the same way, when man bears hardships and losses in certain states, the divine power within him comes forth. New years do not bring us happiness, joy, hardship or loss. As Sandeepan said, every moment is new. Without seconds no minute comes, without minutes no hours come, without hours there are no days. Without days no months come. Without months no years come. The whole span of a year rests on the moment. Only when every moment is lived in purity does this year become a new year. By what action and what conduct we pass each moment of our time: the fruit of that is the fruit of our year.
