In plain words
Those who go bad go out and fall into many troubles. At least you who are here, listen to good words, enter the holy path and take care that negative thoughts do not come. Do not hurt your parents in the least. Revere the mother as God, revere the father as God. You must not hurt them in any way. But teach them well, open your heart, and try to satisfy them. If you explain, they too will understand. To say no to whatever they say is stubbornness. Say nicely, "Father my mind is like this." Speak with sweet words and change them. Bring him round to the right path and satisfy him. For you, your parents matter most. But there are many gods: "Revere the mother as God, the father as God, the teacher as God, the guest as God." The one who practises and then teaches is an ācārya. One who teaches without practising is not an ācārya. He is only a teacher.
Once Mīrā had to leave her husband. For a long time she bore it. But she could not bear his cruelty. He seized her by the hair and dragged her out. He locked the temple of Kṛṣṇa. He told her, "You cannot stay in my temple; go out." She felt great pain. "Alas! Am I to leave my Kṛṣṇa and go?" she thought. Even there negative thoughts came to her. At once the positive set out. "This is a temple the king built. My heart is not something anyone built. It is my Lord who built it. Hamārā dil tumhārā mandir, Kṛṣṇa: my heart itself is Your temple," she thought. She wrote a letter to Tulasīdās. Tulasīdās lived in her own time. What did she write? She put three questions. "Prabhuji, such a situation has come upon me. For a woman to leave her husband is not right. I have had to go against the culture of Bhārata, which holds the husband to be God. What do you tell me to do in this matter?" she said. He wrote an answer. "Mother, you have said, 'Revere the mother as God, the father as God, the teacher as God, the husband as God.' Bharata took great pains for his mother's sake. But because she sent Rāma to the forest, that son too defied his mother's word." Tulasīdās reminded her of this.
