Passage 4

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

What is the reason? Through losing Satya alone he has lost this head too. ‘Dharma’: that is our shoulders. The shoulders alone carry all responsibilities. If we lose Dharma, we become people who have lost our very shoulders. If we lose Śānti, we become people who have lost the stomach itself. When there is no stomach at all, how is one to eat this? How is one to keep this body going? So they took this very thing as a kind of centre, a support. This centre we are losing.

Purity, unity, divinity

Through losing these three alone he lives as a man without Prema. Without Prema there is no life at all. For every man Prema itself is the life-breath. Losing this Prema, which is equal to the life-breath, we are as good as corpses. In every field: hatred, hatred, hatred. Our heart is a single chair. No double sofa, and not a musical chair. This heart is filled with Prema. But today Prema is going. With this Prema gone, unity is drifting far away. Losing unity, he is losing purity too. Losing purity, he is destroying divinity completely. What is this man gaining? Community and enmity: these two he has clasped to his breast. This enmity is going beyond all bounds. Prema has gone, and enmity has settled very firmly, filling the heart. Through this coming of enmity alone the whole country is being torn to pieces. If there were Prema, there would be no room for the country to be torn to pieces like this. But: enmity inside, and outside a word, Hello, hello, hello, as if calling with love. This ‘Hello’ is only ‘low’; with hello we cannot grow Prema. If you want to grow Prema, you must love others. Plus love, plus love, plus love. If you go on adding this, Prema becomes boundless Prema. When this Prema grows great, ‘Ekaṃ sat viprā bahudhā vadanti’, there is no difference at all between people. All become one. When they become one, ‘Ekātma sarvabhūtāntarātma’: in all beings there is the one Ātma.
