In plain words
Hatred, non-hatred, all such things: these are not human qualities. All these are animal qualities; growing such animal qualities and reducing human values, men today live merely as animals.
By evil resolves one comes to sorrow; by true resolve one becomes a good man; only one empty of every resolve attains Śānti: this is Śrī Sai's word, the path that makes Satya known.
What is the reason that Śānti is gone today? Free of every resolve, one becomes a good man. He alone attains Śānti. What is the root cause of Śānti? Through resolves alone Śānti is lost. Only one free of every resolve attains Śānti. So what is the root cause of Śānti? We must check our resolves.
Satya is like the head of the five human values
Of these, the very first human value is ‘Satya’. When we lose Satya, one part of our values is lost. When we lose ‘Dharma’, two parts of our human values have gone to waste. When we lose ‘Śānti’, the third of these, three of the human values are gone. So, losing them one by one in this way, it must be as though we lose one limb after another; Satya is the first value. We are losing this very Satya, the chief one. If we tell the truth, our business will not go on. We will not get a job. We think we cannot get ahead in our life's aims. So, whatever field we look at, the moral, the physical, the dhārmic, the spiritual, the worldly, in every field those who have lost this Satya cannot live. But in the present state of things a man imagines that he lives only because he has given up truth. In this way, losing Satya, he is losing the human value. The very first is Satya. That is the head of man. Today man lives as a man without a head.
