Passage 4

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

Man must lead his daily life within such a sādhana. Nothing is permanent for us. No one is permanent. As long as we are here, we must look after our family well and with dignity. We must fulfil our duty. But if you keep this attachment in the mind and go on worrying, how long can you worry? How long can you go on without letting it go? All these are only the workings of Māyā. So we must recognise well the principle called tāraka. As long as you are here, enjoy everything. Use it in whatever way you need; there is nothing wrong in that. But none of these is mine. That is the truth we must install in the heart. All this is God's decision. It is a boon, a prasāda God has given. We must enjoy this prasāda in the right way. In just the same way, while we are in this world and enjoy the world of Prakṛti, we must go on fulfilling this duty without placing too much attachment on anything. Only then will we gain true Śānti. But we also fall prey to troubles that run against such Śānti. You will experience many kinds of unrest too.

Live content in the present

We are in the world. We have not gone away from the world. So as long as we are in the world, we certainly have to experience this world. But while you experience it, do not experience it with an attachment that says this world is mine. This whole world belongs to God alone. All things are God's alone. All persons too are God's own. The reason: mamaivāṃśo jīvaloke jīvabhūta ssanātanaḥ. We must believe this truth firmly and go on fulfilling our duty. Not only this: man today lives by many kinds of discontented words and deeds. In everything he experiences only discontent. The reason is this: he is not content with what has come to him.
