In plain words

There is a flower, but we do not see the flower's shape. Yet the fragrance alone comes within our experience. We experience only the fragrance; but if you ask what form this fragrance has, its form is the flower itself. From ancient times the great ṛṣis, yogis, good men and scholars recognised only the fragrance and went on searching the whole world: ‘Where is the shape of this fragrance?’ But the great ṛṣis renounced every attachment, gave up everything, and set out to search, holding fast to the question of where the fragrance's form was. They searched every bush too, they searched every forest. But nowhere did the flower appear. But some: there is some fragrance coming. Saying the fragrance itself was enough, they rested content, up to a point, with just the fragrance, and for some time gave up the search for the flower.

Whatever I have taken hold of, I have held it fast: remain just so until the hold prevails. Whatever I have longed for, I have longed for it truly: keep worshipping until the longing is fulfilled. Whatever I have asked for, I have asked for it truly: do not let go until what was asked is given. Whatever I have set my thought on, I have set it there truly: do not move until the thought is fulfilled. Either He, unable to bear the struggle, must save me, or you, losing awareness of the body, must cease; that, and nothing else: to stop halfway and turn back is not the devotee's vow.
