Passage 2

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

The teacher dwells in the āśrama. God alone dwells in the heart. No one has the right to dwell in the heart. But the mother is truly God, and the father is truly God. But they have no right to dwell in the heart. You must honour them, worship them and make them happy. But for worship, the Dweller in the heart alone is the eternal Divinity.

Nearer than a mother is God, far closer than a father; can you leave such a God and not gather sin? This is the true path, the word of Sai.

Mātṛdevo Bhava

In the world of Prakṛti, if a son was to win victory in any battle, or to win victory in tapas, it was the tradition of those days to bow to his mother, take his mother's blessing, and then go off to the forest and perform tapas. Dhruva received his mother's blessing: a boy of six, a boy who had never known the sun, he begged her, “I will go into the deep forests and do tapas; bless me.” Yatradharma tatra vijayaṃ. “Where there is Dharma, there victory will be,” she blessed him. He bowed to his guru. Yatra dharmā tatra kṛṣṇa, yatra kṛṣṇo tatra vijayaṃ. “Only where Dharma and God are can one win victory,” she blessed him. Whatever the mothers of those days said, victory in everything followed. When a mother blessed, God would utter, “Tathāstu, tathāstu, tathāstu.” A mother's blessing alone, by itself, is not enough. God's grace too is absolutely essential. Along with the strength of a mother's blessing, God's grace is essential. A mother's blessing is negative. God's will is positive. Only when these two, negative and positive, come together can the current be put to use. So every man must have the nature that satisfies his mother's heart. Unless his mother's heart is satisfied, a son can win no victory of any kind. A son must have the feelings and the conduct that satisfy his mother's mind.
