In plain words
Along with that, he must also become worthy of God's grace. Unless they become worthy of God's grace, however much a mother blesses them, they cannot win victory. There was a time when the Kauravas grieved that they had not become worthy of their mother's grace. What is the reason for this? Their mother's gaze did not fall on them. Though she had a hundred sons, she did not look at even one of them with her own eyes. After the war, Kṛṣṇa went to see Gāndhārī. Dhṛtarāṣṭra grieved deeply. Gāndhārī turned on Kṛṣṇa words full of both great anger and grief. “Kṛṣṇa! The Kauravas and the Pāṇḍavas are all of them sons of brothers. For Your hatred of the Kauravas and Your Prema for the Pāṇḍavas, what is the reason? You went on protecting the five Pāṇḍavas. But of the hundred sons You left not one. What a difference You make!” said Gāndhārī. Then, smiling, Kṛṣṇa spoke. “Gāndhārī! In your agitation you are saying whatever comes to your lips. But this is your own fault,” He said. Though you had a hundred sons, did you look at even one son with your eyes? How can one who was not granted even his mother's gaze ever gain the gaze of God? A mother's gaze must rest fully on her sons. In these times there is even such a thing as a wicked son, but there is no wicked mother. Having tasted such a mother's heart, you must make a fitting effort to satisfy her. So the more you gladden your mother, the more joy the motherland will know. Mother and motherland: both are truly a great support. In this land of our birth we must acquire fitting qualities.
