Passage 7

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

But Giri held firmly to his resolve. ‘Sir! I have made up my mind to go to Puttaparthi. Do what you will, I will not stay here,’ he said. Vajpayee too is a devotee of Swami, so with the words ‘If you said you were going to some other place, I would have stood in the way; but since you have resolved to go to Prasanthi Nilayam, I have no choice but to agree,’ he signed on the very next day. On the very third day Giri came straight here.

Students! It is precisely through Prema for Swami and through faith in you that such pure-hearted Vice-Chancellors, whom no one else can find, are coming within your reach and falling to your lot. From daybreak till night they work with great effort. In no university do Vice-Chancellors work this hard. Make good use of such Vice-Chancellors. For such a chance to come within your reach and fall to your lot is great good fortune. Yet for those Vice-Chancellors too, to find such good children is great good fortune indeed. It is precisely because there are children of good understanding that Vice-Chancellors rich in knowledge are coming within reach.

The Students' Responsibility

Students! Not only in the whole of Bhārata but in every country, you must go in, proclaim the ideal, teach the true nature of education, and bring about right progress. You will surely bring it about. You are lights of just that kind. You must not come here only to uplift yourselves. You must uplift society and the country too. Only then will the studies you have pursued bear their meaning. Hold firmly to the resolve that the ancient culture of Bhārata must be restored. Max Muller said that the sacredness found in Bhārata is in no other country. He longed greatly to die in Bhārata itself. But is everything fulfilled the very moment it is wished for? His wish did not bear fruit. You, the sons of such a sacred Mother Bhārata, are greatly fortunate. The responsibility of seeing that this Mother sheds no tears rests on you. Take up whatever sacrifice it needs to make Her happy. Not merely Bhārata, one land alone: wish that the whole world may be well.
