In plain words

Man Is the Embodiment of Ānanda

We must not spend all our time on the body alone. We must give the body some room. We must take care of the body too. What for? For offering to God, the body is essential to us. What must we offer to God? We must offer God perfect Prema alone. Where did this Prema spring from? God Himself is Prema (God is love). In this very Prema we must live and make our home.

Born in the water itself, grown in the water itself, the bubble of water sinks back into the water.

In the same way, man must be born from Ānanda itself, live in Ānanda itself, and come to his end in Ānanda itself. Sooner or later, the body is indeed a passing thing. We must not give over our time, our deeds, and even our very frame, for the sake of this impermanent body alone. What we need is true character. In today's education, people make the effort it takes to earn wealth, might and friends. Wealth, might and friends are not what matters most. Character is very much needed. However much wealth a man without character earns, it is all simply in vain. If wealth is lost, it does not matter; if friends are lost, it does not matter. Character, though, we must nurture. In ancient times the people of Bhārata, having done many sādhanas: “If wealth is lost nothing is lost, if health is lost something is lost. If character is lost every thing is lost,” they said. But under the sway of the Kali age, today it has turned into: if character is lost nothing is lost, if Health is lost something is lost, if Wealth is lost everything is lost. This is today's reverse journey. This is not the right journey. Character is lost everything is lost. For one who has no character at all, there is no place whatever in the world. So we must make the effort it takes to nurture character. For the sake of nurturing such sacred character, Kṛṣṇa gave teachings of many kinds, proclaimed them to the world, Himself let His own principle be experienced, and went on showing the ideal. Prof. Chatterjee said.
