Passage 4

In plain words

There are three kinds of Śānti here. How is the Śānti of the world to be gained? The root cause of this Śānti of the world is none other than the Śānti of society. Where does this Śānti of society arise from? It is from the Śānti of the individual that the Śānti of society begins. That is why the individual, society and the world, the three, are forms whose nature is that of the Trimūrti. Not only are they of the nature of the Trimūrti; they also rest on one another. Today we are distancing ourselves from this society, bound together in such mutual support. The Śānti of every man depends on society. We cannot live apart from society for even a single moment. The whole of society is made up of nothing but the gathering of individuals. We cannot understand this principle of society at all. Only when society is well is the world well. Today the wicked, who talk of peace while doing deeds that breed unrest, are on the increase. Though they have eyes, they live as the blind. Though they have a brain, they turn into madmen. What kind of punishment must we give such people? We must open the eyes of the person who has his wits and still turns mad. How are we to open them? This itself is the eye of Prema. Only when we open this eye of Prema can we hope for the happiness of the world. If we do not recognise the welfare of the world and do not care about the joy of society, how can you seek Śānti for the world? Impossible. However many kinds of wealth and grain there may be, the happiness of wealth and grain is not true happiness. America is known as ‘the progeny of Kubera’. They have all the riches and wealth they could want. But however much they have, what is the use? There is no peace of mind. The happiness there is in this America is physical happiness. It is merely worldly happiness. They lack nothing of any kind. Every single person has a car of his own. If there are six people in a house, there are six cars. The growth of these cars is such that if you stacked them one upon another they would touch the sky. Though they have so many comforts, Śānti is not to be seen among them. But the people of Bhārata are embodiments of Śānti.
