In plain words
This is cloth. This is not cloth. It is a joining of threads. It is not threads; this is cotton. From cotton itself came the thread. From the thread itself came the cloth. So where did the mind come from? It came merely from thoughts. Thoughts turned into desires. Desires turned into the mind. So bundle of desires is mind. Less luggage more comfort make travel a pleasure. If we reduce these desires, if we take the threads away, no suffering is left for us. There is no cloth at all. If we want to kill the mind, we must reduce our desires. This is just what they called sacrifice in ancient times. But we only read about sacrifice, while we live through disease. Krishna Iyer said it. ‘Sacrifice, sacrifice’: that is what Swami keeps asking for. But we are not asking for sacrifice. We are asking for enjoyment. Because we ask for enjoyment, we are sinking into disease. Today, wherever you look in the country, diseases, diseases. What is the reason? Enjoyments themselves are the root cause. As long as there are enjoyments, diseases will not be cured. If we are to cure these diseases, we must love God through sacrifice. So start the day with love, fill the day with love, spend the day with love, end the day with love. This is the way to God. Only when we begin in this way does divinity come to us.
Practice Is What Matters
Embodiments of Prema! Emperor Bali of those days rendered so many kinds of service to the kingdom of Kerala. He gave up his all in sacrifice. In the end he gave up his very body in sacrifice. That is exactly why no one has gained the place of Emperor Bali. No one else has the Bhakti that was in that kingdom. Earlier they called it a communist state. In any State, a party comes today and goes tomorrow. From those days to these, everyone keeps going to the Padmanābhasvāmi temple. Bathing as soon as they rise at dawn, putting on sandal paste, bowing to God. No change of any kind has come to this Bhakti. You must become true Hindus, true Christians, true Muslims.
