In plain words
What Is Dharma?
“Dharmo bhrātā,” they said. Seen from outside, Dharma appears as one dharma for each country, one for each religion, one for each tradition. But the brother who loves all human beings, all countries, in all times, with oneness, is the one Dharma. This brother is the one who is the embodiment of Prema. Holding to this very thing, from ancient times in Bhārata the Veda has given Satya and Dharma the highest place, saying “Satyaṃ vada, dharmaṃ cara.” There is no other father greater than a brother. Even as brothers, what an ideal Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa gave the world! Once, at the time when Lakṣmaṇa fell unconscious, Rāma grieved greatly. Lakṣmaṇa! A wife like Sītā can be sought out and found anywhere. A mother like Kausalyā I can seek out and win. But a brother like Lakṣmaṇa I cannot get back. Because I had such a brother, My Rāma-principle has kept on shining. So for us Dharma itself is the brother. Compassion the friend. Today's friends may turn into enemies tomorrow. Many experiences of this kind are seen in the world. But we will find no friend greater than compassion. The true friend is the embodiment of compassion.
What Is Śānti?
Śānti itself is the wife. Who is the wife? Śānti itself is the wife. This Śānti is what has recognised, ceaselessly, on every path and in every living being, the oneness that lies within the many. This Śānti is the ornament of the great ṛṣis. It is the crown of the ṛṣis. On the spiritual path it is the royal road. Such a Śānti alone is the wife for all.
What Is Forbearance?
Forbearance the son. Forbearance itself is the son. There is no other good son greater than forbearance. This very forbearance is Satya. Forbearance itself is the Veda. There is no other strength greater than forbearance. Satya, Jñāna, Dharma, compassion, Śānti and forbearance: these six are the true kin of every human being. Today, because it has lost such a divine mother, such a divine father, such a friend, such a brother, such a wife and such a son, the world is falling into many upheavals.
