In plain words

Ānanda Is Right Within Us

Born in water itself, growing in water, the water-bubble merges back in water; man is the bubble, Nārāyaṇa the water.

Ānanda is right within us. Why struggle for Ānanda? Why do you make so many journeys? Why spend so much money? Following the sway of the conditions of place and time, they are wasting even time, action, cause and duty. Truly, man is wasting most of his time. A day has 24 hours of time. But of those 24 hours he wastes 20. We imagine these are our own tasks, somehow. We carry out our jobs. We plunge in, saying it is our business. All these are nothing but wasted work. They are not the mark of true fulfilment. Of these 24 hours, 4 remain. They waste these in still more idleness. Not even for a single moment does man himself question his own nature. Why was I born? What have I come for? What am I doing? There are no such questions at all. As soon as we see anyone before us, "Who are you, sir? What have you come for, sir? What are you doing?" we ask them. We have the power to question others outside, but we have wholly forgotten the power to question ourselves. "What have I come for? From where have I come? What am I doing?" If you put these questions to yourself, it tells you the answer then and there.

We must recognise the truth that the power of my birth, the fulfilment of my birth, is of this kind. If we do not know the Purpose of life, then what are we doing at all? What is the purpose of life. In Hindi they say: Khānā pīnā sonā marnā.
