Passage 11

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

This is the very first thing we must do. All are nothing but embodiments of a part of God. So whomever you serve, you must regard it as service to God. Regarding it so: The best way to love God is to love all and serve all. Love all. Serve all. If you live like this, every action becomes one done to please God.

Desires Alone Are the Cause of Sorrow

Embodiments of Prema! What we need: the body needs this much food. It needs nourishment. It needs cloth to wear. It needs a hut to live in. If some illness or other comes, there must be money for medicine to drink. This much and no more; yet we fall prey to boundless desires. Only so far as is needed, that far and no further. We must be content. This contentment itself is happiness. Discontent brings loss in two ways. If you want to gain Śānti for yourself, experience contentment. This contentment too is not somewhere out there. It is in you yourself. All the desires man has come from sorrow itself. The birth place of all desires is sorrow itself. We cannot bear the sorrow that comes from these desires. Why? Sorrow comes from our desires themselves. So, less luggage more comfort Such travel is a pleasure. We must keep reducing these desires. That itself they called Vairāgya. Desires do not show the way to Vairāgya. Regard the whole physical world as inert. Believe the whole subtle world to be Māyā. Believe the whole of the most subtle world to be a reflection. Everything has its original. That is only a reflection. This is only inert. This is only Māyā. When you regard these three in this way, desires will not come at all. Little by little we must keep reducing some of our desires. Only when we keep reducing these desires does the longing for God keep growing. The Veda too taught this very thing.

Where There Is Immorality There Is No Immortality

‘Nakarmaṇā naprajayā dhanenu tyāgenaike amṛtatvamānasuḥ.’ Whatever actions you do, do them to please God. However many children you have, offer them to God; believe your wealth to be God's gift.
