Passage 14

Tap any word for its meaning.

In plain words

Is this not teaching the children Asatya? If you do not wish to speak, have him say, ‘My father will not speak.’ In this way they teach the children Asatya and spoil the children's hearts.

When the children are here, they are very much like gold. They are like sacred, pure gold. In these holidays they go home and come back. They come back like gold that brass or copper has got into. This is how they are coming back. We are seeing it with our own eyes. How good the children were when they went, and how bad they are when they come back! But some, for their part, come back just as they went. Even when there are 10 more days of holidays, they do not wish to stay there. They come straight back. That too: their goodness and badness take shape on the basis of their saṃskāra alone. The saṃskāra of birth after birth is most essential for them. It is not merely the fruit of this birth alone. This is the very good fortune they have received by gathering up the fruit of merit of many births.

Do Not Make Sacred Time Unholy

Students! Embodiments of Prema! Today we must try to recognise Divinity at least to some extent. No God, No God, many people say. This is the age of science. This is the age of knowledge. In an age of knowledge, where is there room for God to cease to be? In any age at all, what is there is God alone, always there. No object at all is so. All the objects the eye sees are bound to change. With this very thing in view the Veda said, “Yadṛśyaṃ tannaśyaṃ.” Whatever is seen, all of it is bound to pass into nothing. It may be here today. It may go tomorrow. But God is the One who is for ever. He is not one who goes. He is not one who comes. What is permanent for ever is God. We must not forget such a permanent God, think of what is transient and impermanent, and so make time unholy. The time God has given is very sacred. We must spend this time in a sacred way. Even after God has given such time, to misuse it is a great mistake.
