In plain words
Why these lands that yield no crop, called publicity? It is enough to keep a small plot of good land in what is called your practice. This alone will give you everything. So we must make the heart pure. The heart itself is our chief field. See that no impurity gathers in this field of the heart. Only then shall we become pure beings.
Remembering and Practising: Both Must Be There
Embodiments of the Divine Ātma! Drive away the bad feelings in your heart. In their place fill it with the sacred principle of Prema. What use is there in giving so many lectures? What use is there in reading so many Vedas? What use is there in studying so many śāstras? Many people think, ‘I know everything.’ What use is there in knowing? Are we putting even one thing into practice? All learning that is not put into practice is meaningless. If you put it into practice, even one thing is enough; it gives Ānanda in full. We have fallen ill. If we recite the names of all the medicines to cure the illness, will the illness be cured? We are hungry. If we keep saying, ‘Five kinds of delicacies and sweet pāyasam,’ will the stomach be filled! No, no. There are crores of rupees in the bank. If we think, ‘There are crores and crores of rupees,’ will even a single coin drop into our pocket? It will not. So there is no use merely in our thinking of it. For a monkey's birth, restlessness is the chief trait. Rāma took you, a monkey with such restlessness, to Himself; why has He not taken me to Himself? For so long I have been remembering the Name of Rāma. But why has He not taken me to Himself?’ When he asked this, Hanumān says, ‘Vibhīṣaṇa! I know that you remember the Name of Rāma.
