Passage 8

In plain words

There is nothing that surpasses this. Dharma alone is our principal form. Satya alone is our true shape. Śānti alone is our divine principle. We must take on this form. How are we spending this sacred human life? We said that our body is made up of many limbs. The support is not something separate from this creation. Our body is not separate from creation. Our body is a part within creation. People are setting this body, a part within creation, on a passing, impermanent path. This very thing, in the Bhagavad Gītā:

‘Having come into this passing, joyless world, worship Me.’

All this is passing and joyless. There is no happiness for us here. Many people think there is. This body is gone in a moment.

Take no pride in wealth, people and youth; Time takes them all away in the blink of an eye.

We think all this a matter of great pride. This world lasts a moment. This life is gone in a moment. It is passing. It is without glory. Are we to follow such a thing in this way? No, no. We must set this life on the right path. The body walks on the earth. It lives on the earth. But when we welcome the great, we have to welcome the bad as well. What for? To recognise our divinity, to teach that joy and sorrow are the same, we have to invite them too. The face of a great man is full of radiance. When you invite a great man to your house and say, ‘Great one! Send your radiant face in,’ he sends his foot first, then he sends his face. Only after the feet are set forward does the face come behind. In today's world the face is very sacred. People think the feet are very unholy. They said that the very sight of the feet destroys sin. So sacred are the feet. The feet alone carry the sacred body along. If there are no feet at all, the sacred body does not get inside.
