Passage 9

In plain words

So the feet alone carry this sacred body, the Lord of all, inside. So the feet are very important. We must recognise well the true nature of such feet. Where are these feet? We must install them on the throne of the heart. Not with the impure body. The temple of the heart is God's inner sanctum. In that temple you must install the form of the Pādukās. O God! You dwell in my heart. Enter my heart and be installed there. He did not say, ‘Tiṣṭhāmi, Nārada.’ He said, ‘Pratiṣṭhāmi, Nārada.’ It is not merely a matter of festival idols. This is the place where we must make the installation. To worship outwardly these feet that must be so installed is indeed important at the start. As we go on worshipping and worshipping in this way, they become installed there. Nārada asked a question. ‘Nārāyaṇa! Many problems keep standing in my way. At such times I come for Your darśan, and I do not know where You are or what. Are You in Kailāsa? Are You in heaven? Are You in Vaikuṇṭha?’ he said. ‘Nārada! I shall tell you My permanent address; write it down,’ He said.

“Where My devotees sing, there I stay, Nārada.”

Wherever My devotees worship Me in their hearts, right there I am installed. Kailāsa, heaven, Vaikuṇṭha: these are branch offices. God is not somewhere in places outside. He is right in our heart. Our hṛdaya is not this physical heart. Hṛt + dayā = hṛdaya. Only that which is filled with compassion is the hṛdaya. This compassion is everywhere. There is no place at all without a hṛdaya. So it is He Himself who is everywhere. To remember God in such a sacred place, we need not go anywhere. Yesterday all the paṇḍits said it. That alone is the auspicious hour, that the good day; that alone the strength of the stars, the strength of the moon… What does ‘tad eva lagnam’ mean? It is not a muhūrta someone has written down and fixed. Wherever we decide, that itself is the good lagna. All the time we spend in thought of Him is sacred time itself.
