In plain words
Happiness comes to us in that Satya alone. All happiness, every kind, comes to us only from Satya. But in this worldly Satya there is really no happiness, you see! You know: Kucela made friends with Kṛṣṇa. In childhood. But because many children were born to him, he sank into family life and came to suffer many hardships. ‘Alas! In this state, who will bring me to the shore? Who will care for me? Who will end my troubles?’ he kept grieving bitterly. In childhood, at the gurukula, he had made friends with Kṛṣṇa, had His friendship. Because he had, his wife reminded him. ‘Listen! Kṛṣṇa is God, is He not! He is your friend too, is He not! So why not go to Him for shelter! All your troubles will be set right,’ she said. But this Kucela had doubt, doubt. ‘The doubting soul perishes.’ ‘Will He speak to me or not? Will He look at me or not?’ such was his doubt. One who has this doubt is all misgiving. For one who has misgiving, everything turns out only for the worse. ‘The doubting soul perishes’: he grows feeble in every way. This misgiving must not come. No, no. Some ordinary men may forget. There must be the śraddhā that God does not forget. ‘The one who has śraddhā gains Jñāna’: that śraddhā must be there. This trust must be there. He made that trust firm. He went to Kṛṣṇa. Anyone at all may forget. Who would welcome this Kucela, who came like a beggar. They would not let him come even as far as the gate; but Kucela came and stood at the door. Kṛṣṇa heard this news. Kṛṣṇa ran out. He honoured Kucela. ‘O friend! How long it is since I saw you! Where have you been? How have you been?’ For Him to speak like this, there had to be a reason, did there not. That is why it is in hardships alone that this divinity comes to mind. Here is a small example of this. After their life in the forest, a full 13 years, the Pāṇḍavas came home. ‘My sons have come home safe and well’: with the joy of saying so, Kuntī Devī went to Kṛṣṇa and bowed to Him. ‘Aunt! Are you happy? Ask for whatever more you want; I shall give it,’ said Kṛṣṇa. ‘Kṛṣṇa! I want nothing.
