Passage 15

In plain words

Otherwise, seeing our bad habits, everyone without exception will revile us and mock us. They will push such a man out, with no place at all among men, none at all. Because we do deeds that go against society, because we lead ourselves into deeds that go against the body, humanness becomes impure. So if we are to put away this impurity, we must dwell on humanness. Only when we have put away these 25 tattvas too does God Himself, who is the 26th, appear before us. That is why Rāmadāsu said:

It came under Māyā, it came under Māyā; Māyā became the twenty-five mysteries; if you join the twenty-five mysteries of Māyā, life became Māyā, Māyā, Māyā.

Māyā, Māyā, Māyā: 25 mantras. These 25 tattvas too are nothing but Māyā. Why should we follow what is bound up with Māyā like this? Today we follow it like that. That is exactly why we cover ourselves more and more with what is called Ajñāna; every man who knows, knows, ‘This that I am doing is wrong.’ Though you know your conscience, because you fail to act on it you are lower even than a demon. When you go against your own conscience itself, how will you ever win the respect of anyone outside? When those outside do not respect you. What is the use of your living? No: we were born in society. We are growing up in society. We must guard the honour of society. Merely selfish, selfish, selfish. This selfishness, the thing called selfishness, turns into a great demon. To some extent sacrifice must arise in us. That we must sacrifice is itself the truth. What does Satya mean? Friendship is needed. Whose friendship? Some fellow's friendship, or this one's? That is not friendship. Friendship with God, that is what is needed. That itself is Satya. If we achieve that which is called Satya, we become people who have achieved all happiness.
