In plain words
If you join the bad, you have become bad. If you join the good, you become good. So you must join good company.
The Whole World Lies in These Five: Samyak Dṛṣṭi, Samyak Bhāva, Samyak Śravaṇa, Samyak Vāk, Samyak Karma
The Buddha spoke of five relations. Samyak dṛṣṭi, samyak bhāva, samyak śravaṇa, samyak vāk, samyak karma: the whole world lies in these five. Strive for these five yourself; no guru is needed. You need not do any sādhana. Those five are given by God Himself. So love Him alone who gave them. Through His Prema all your troubles come to an end. The man from Argentina spoke. His watch stopped, and it went again. It was not Swami's doing. So that his faith might grow strong, Swami went on playing a drama in that way. Everyone needs faith. Only when that honouring is well in place does everything fall into place. When that faith is in disorder, the result too is just like that. So they said, ‘Yadbhāvaṃ tadbhavati.’
First of all, Śaṅkara went on telling of six qualities. Samyak dṛṣṭi: when you bring sacred feelings into it, life becomes sacred. Enthusiasm. You must be full of enthusiasm. You must not put on a weeping face. You must not wear a castor oil face. You must be full of Ānanda, smiling and smiling. Daring: the daring to achieve anything at all rises up in us. Courage. Then courage too comes into us. Buddhi grows. Strength comes in great measure. Valour: the courage that says, “I can achieve it,” comes. When these six qualities are there, they will surely attain it. Divinity is in that very person. It is enough to close your eyes: you can see divinity. So near does divinity dwell. Where these six qualities are, there God is. Today we are driving those six qualities away from us. We are developing the six bad qualities called kāma, krodha, lobha, moha, mada and mātsarya.
