When There Is Prema, Everything Is Fulfilled for Us
Students! Growing day by day, you must take shape as ideal persons in your own countries. “How good and how great this boy has become! What good practices he has done!”: you must earn a good name like that. Then your parents too will rejoice. Your friends will rejoice. Society will try to draw close to you. You must earn a good name among people by being good. That good name God name, they said. Goodness is godness, they said. Earn a good name. Walk in good ways. Foster good vision. Foster good speech. Develop good hearing. Only then will you become good. When there are no good words in us, no one will let you near. Even if you put on an act outwardly, they will not take you in. A good word must come from the heart. It must come from a tank. If you do not keep a connection with that tank, there is no use. A small example. In a village they built a water tank. They had to supply water to the villagers. They laid pipes from the tank. They put up public taps. They invited a minister. Because the minister was coming, they put up a gold tap. They did it all thinking they could take the gold back as soon as he left. The minister came. The band played. He came and turned the tap. Not a single drop of water came. “What is this, eh?” they wondered in surprise. There was water in the tank. They had not made a connection between the tank and the tap. Because of that, no water came. The tank called our heart is full of the water called kindness and compassion. Our heart is indeed full of compassion. But if what is in the heart is to come into action, you must give it a connection. You must make samyak dṛṣṭi the connection between tank and tap. Those good looks, love: that is the connection. Without that love all this goes to waste. What use is there in water lying in the tank? Compassion is in the heart itself. But you are not putting it to use!
