In plain words
This very thing Churchill, who was Britain's Prime Minister in the Kali age, said: Man has conquered all, but he has not conquered himself. Man has not known himself. Once Gandhi was lying down, very sad, poor man. A foreigner said, ‘What, Gandhiji, what are you worrying about?’ ‘I am worrying about the system of education,’ he said. ‘What? Is the British system of education not good?’ he asked. This modern system of education is making the heart hard. This education that makes people hard-hearted does not develop man at all. When the heart is hard, what is the use of man living? He turns into a heart of stone. So today's science is turning man into a heart of stone. It must turn him into a heart of Prema. It must turn people into kind hearts. It must turn him into a heart of Śānti. That alone is science. Science has two parts. It says that when hydrogen and oxygen combine, they become water. Very well. You may take pride, saying, ‘I have made water.’ That is no greatness. Everyone must share that water equally; that itself is greatness. Every one must enjoy that water in the way that is his right. The true right. Everyone today is fighting, saying, ‘Right, right!’ You fight for your right, but what about responsibility? You must take up responsibility as well. If you go about saying ‘Right, right!’ without taking up responsibility, what right is that? When one says right, another says left. Is this right?
Students! No one has authority over your right. When we carry out our duty well, the right comes of its own accord. A right needs no special exertions. Go on doing your duty properly. Do your duty. Duty is God. Work is worship. If you ask what your right is, making the many happy, that alone is your right. Broad-hearted, with a sacred feeling, with a selfless feeling, you must take part in service to make all mankind happy. Service is God. The best way to love God is to Love all and serve all. You must love all. You must serve all. Recognising this truth well, you must honour your elders and answer them with good words.
