In plain words
The gold's own svarūpa has gone. By the time many metals were added, its own svarūpa was hidden. Man today is just like that. Man today, when he is born, is a pure human being. When he mixes with everyone and brings onto the Ātma only the qualities called Asatya, injustice and violence, the Ātma too changes and becomes a form of happiness and sorrow. This alone is the root cause of all this birth and death. While you remain the pure Ātma, there is no room at all for this birth and death. By the time he adds all of these, attachment to the body, attachment to honour, attachment to the intellect, he has gone on taking shape as a man, not as any form of his own. Within this man too, he has gone on taking shape as a man of good and bad. He is forgetting his own svarūpa. What is the reason for forgetting this svarūpa? The root cause of it is just this adding of metals. You must make it pure again. How are you to do it? You must put it into the fire. Then all these separate metals part from one another, and it becomes pure gold. Our bad qualities must go far away. If bad feelings have joined this sacred gold, you must purify them. You must offer up the bad qualities as an oblation in the fire. Today envy and hatred keep growing more and more. And it is among devotees, among seekers, that this envy is growing. Along with this Ahaṅkāra, envy too is growing. Because these two grow, people destroy humanness itself. Man says one thing to one person and another thing to another. How can you call such a one a man? By adding all these metals he loses his humanness. You must keep your faith firm. You must see that no admixtures of any kind join it. Add gold to gold; that is, add good company to good company. You must not join bad company. Bad company itself is very bad. First of all you must drive away bad qualities.
