In plain words
‘You have given me 80 years. These 80 years are all taken up by my own tasks. Give me 20 years more,’ he said. Then God said, ‘Silly fellow! Do you need 20 years more to think of Me? You do not need 20 years. Two seconds are enough for you. How? There is current. You want light. How much time does it take to switch it on? Only a second. It does not take even a second. The moment you put on the switch, the light shines. Do you need 20 years to put on this light? Who knows what else you would use these 20 years for! All this is a sign of your laziness,’ He said. So, truly, if you want to think of God, one moment is enough. It is enough to think of Him for one moment with a steady citta. Slow and steady wins the race. We must not waste time. Time itself is the form of God. Time is God. Don't waste time. Time waste is life waste. Go on using time in the right way. That itself is your sādhana. Think of time as the form of God, and you become pure. So you need not lament, saying, ‘I have no time.’ They raise the question that they have no time to think of Swami, to do Swami's service. Whoever wrote this question is thoroughly lazy. Drive laziness away from you. If you drive this laziness away, you will reach a path that is as sacred as you could wish. Laziness is rust and dust. Realisation is rest and best: recognise this truth well.
Wherever it is done, service is service
Now the fourth question. Because we live abroad, we do not get the chance to do a great deal of Sai service. They wish, ‘We should come to India, live in India and do Swami's service fully and wholeheartedly.’
This too, in a way, is laziness. For doing service, what is one's own country, what is India? God dwells in all. Whether it is done there or done here, it is service. Wherever it is done, you can do service. But to want to come to Praśānti Nilayam itself, to stay close to Swami and do Swami's service, is nothing but selfishness.
