In plain words

Spiritual Awareness Is Vital for Man's Survival

But first, what is the duty man must do? In the English language this was called Man. M = Mind control, A = Ātma-darśana. N = Nirvāṇa. Man is above all one who is made of the oneness of these three. Mind control, Ātma-darśana, the state of Nirvāṇa. These three rest on man's Satya and morality. A country that has no good boys and girls can never be a prosperous country. Good boys and girls cannot exist in a society that has no purity of the citta and no wealth of character. Character cannot develop where there is no foundation of morality at all. A nation that has no spiritual awareness at all (the essence of all the Upaniṣads) will not last. The humanness of the whole race can never develop in the least. This spiritual awareness is vital for the welfare of the world, for the peace of the world and for the survival of man. This is what was said in the Veda: “Satyaṃ brūyāt, priyaṃ brūyāt, na brūyāt satyam apriyam.” Speak Satya. This is the moral. That Satya must be spoken in a pleasing way. That itself is the dhārmic. Na brūyāt satyam apriyam. This is the very Dharma of man in his dealings with the world. This itself is the spiritual. Man is one endowed with the lamp of the moral, the dhārmic and the spiritual. Today people are using such humanness for the sake of physical comforts and riches.

It Is Because Man Has Lost His Value That the Value of All Things Has Kept Rising

A mānava, a man, can never be one who is in Ajñāna. Mā-na-va. We must try to recognise the meaning in these three syllables. Ma: Ajñāna; na: without; va: conducting oneself. Only one who conducts himself without Ajñāna is a mānava. Why should a man like this, free of Ajñāna, need Jñāna? What does Jñāna mean? Mere acquaintance with books is not Jñāna. The vision of the one Ātma is Jñāna. This is what the Veda called ‘ekam eva advitīyaṃ brahma’. If such humanness is not nourished in the proper way, one can never be a complete man. Boundless desires are growing in the man of today.
